"Timelines":  Recent Works by Karen Jacobs, NorDys Gallery

Karen Jacobs paints large, tremendously sophisticated abstractions.  She uses fine lines to segment the surface of her works into carefully integrated planes of color.  There is a structural pattern that suspends vivid color hues in shallow space, rather like casual curtains against relatively neutral backgrounds.  Her uses of textures are delicate and
sparse, providing focal points that allow the compositions to achieve an asymmetric balance and rather dramatic impasto intensity.

Jacobs' paintings range from warm, almost gentle hues of pale greens and earth tones that suggest early spring to intense, deep reds, blues and blacks that provide and introduction to a sense of power and heat.  All her work has a strong, architectonic quality, a feeling of ordered variety that is compelling and satisfying.  In some instances one feels a sense of order that resembles the view of looking down at a cultivated
land from a plane.  The paintings reflect the essential element of variety, no matter how ordered they might seem.

Stringent, dense, controlled and asymmetrically balanced, Jacobs' paintings are ornamental in the best sense.

"From the handsome and controlled abstractions by Karen Jacobs . . .
NorDys Gallery continues to represent a high standard in contemporary painting."
